Harvest Patience

Here in Portland we can get a bit ahead of ourselves. When February presents warm days we begin to feel that spring is here. Bulbs are sending up their pointed leaves, and we see the buds swell on the tree. "Time to plant greens" my mind tell me.

But wait.

February is a time for preparing. The seasons are changing, it is true, but spring is not here quite yet. And so it pays to take a deep breath, and be firmly grounded in where we are; firmly grounded in the realness of the season.

We are at the moment when winter is turning into spring. Imbolc was just last week, marking the cross quarter day between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. We are at the in between place. Part winter, part spring.

This is exemplified by the weather these past few weeks . Warm and sunny and dry, shifting to warm and misty. Then chilly. Then full on snow. There are two plus inches of snow on the ground outside my window right now.

So harvest patience. As we all must this time of year. Take a deep breath, root into the season, and prepare.
