This month we are studying "nature in winter" at many schools. Last week the middle school students at Beverly Cleary Fernwood studied winter tree buds. The 6th grade students explored and sketched plants for their science class. While the 8th grade literature students read Walt Whitman's Unseen Buds and explored the native habitat bio-swale and sketched or described the buds they saw.
At Atkinson the 3rd graders compared three different types of buds. They all enjoyed the chance to use hand lenses to search for buds on other plants.
This week other classes will examine the buds on their school's campus. Just another example of observing the wonders of Nature in the dormant months of the year.
I do love trees, Aliesje
