As a camp team (students, Jr. Counselors, and adult leaders) we did a lot of art projects and also did some experiemnts with the sun.
SOLAR CRAYONS:
We made crayons... experimented with heat locations. We let them sit for an hour in the sun and watched them start to soften, then we moved them into the Green house and they melted in less than an hour. Our data revealed that it was 20 degrees F hotter in the greenhouse at 1pm and by 3pm it was at least 40 degrees hotter inside. (and this was with the top vent fully opened!)

Solar oven
We learned a lot about solar cooking... our compote was awesome after only 2 hours in the Portland Sun, our potatoes took a couple days of sunlight. We moved them as the earth moved/sun position in the sky changed, the older students took on this task with pride. All students help prep food and make the solar ovens. What an awesome experience.
Thanks to all our supporters for making this week such a success!
